So I was reading the Freedom Planet wiki when I saw this bit of trivia on Lilac’s page:
“Lilac’s earpieces are hearing aids. She has fish fins underneath them (like seen on Merga), but a genetic defect renders them useless and she’s extremely hard-of-hearing if not deaf without her earpieces.“
My first thought was wow, that’s cool as fuck. I think that’s a really cool uncommon thing to make about her.
My second thought was wow, that’s cute as fuck. At first I was about to draw them huge, since it says “like seen on Merga”, but I thought about maybe that’s one reason why they don’t work is because they’re so small. Also they should fit underneath her hearing aids because it just makes sense right?
My third thought was that after I drew this I was like “dude ok what if her friends don’t know and ask her what’s underneath her headphones and she admits they’re actually hearing aids and underneath are fins so she shows her friends and she can see them smile and think they’re cute”. So I depicted that in this picture with Lilac’s blush and the little heart at the side.
Also for a first time drawing Freedom Planet 2 Lilac I think I did pretty well. I was scared at first because it looked like there was a lot to her, but I took my time.
Play Freedom Planet by the way, it’s a solid fast-paced platformer with a diverse cast of characters, incredible voice-acting and good combat.
